A while ago a I spilled a minor amount of drink on my laptop, it had no immediate effects. About 2 weeks later the power cord won’t work (i know for a fact its the power cord/AC adaptor and not the battery) Would the spilled drink cause this?
If I bought a new cord/AC adaptor, I assume its also possible they may get shorted out as well?

It’s very possible… spilling anything on your laptop could have created a minor short in the system, causing feedback to the power cord and blowing out the adapter. It’s definitely possible.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost 8 years now. We’ve had our ups and downs like every relationship – sometimes we have a blast together and sometimes we dislike each other. I’ve currently run into a situation regarding my relationship and I’m having a difficult time making a decision and could really use some good advice…

Some important background information is necessary. So about five years ago or three years into the relationship, I found inappropriate conversations and e-mails trying to meet up with people that he had met in online chat rooms. I confronted him, multiple times, about all the things I found and he denied it was him at first, and then he promised never to do it again. He told me it was an outlet in which he could be himself without being judged. Ok, his mistake, maybe he had a hard time opening up intimately – I understand it’s difficult to trust people in that way. I know he loved me and would never actually go through with it, so I took his word and moved on.

Fast-forward to present time – eight years into our relationship or five years since the previously discussed scandal. I found him searching craigslist erotic services for all types of shit – men, women, trannies, orgies, etc. He’s even gone so far as to respond to a few ads while I was at work seeing if he could meet up with these people. I don’t have any evidence implying that he’s actually met up with anyone or not. I’ve been monitoring his actions for the past few months and he’s still browsing every once in a while. I know I have to confront him, but I feel like I need more hard evidence so he can’t lie to my face. I also feel like I need more hard evidence to justify my leaving the relationships. I’m just not sure what evidence I am looking for or when I’ll get enough evidence to make a decision.

I’ve tried to get him to talk about any possible fantasies he might have and try to get him to open up sexually to me, but he never mentions any crazy things he wants to try. I mean, we probably have as much sex as every other healthy couple, so it’s not like he’s deprived. He JUST recently (in the past six months or so) opened up and started talking about masturbating, but only because I pressed the issue.

I am furious and upset and am not sure what to do. I know the easy answer is to leave him, but I feel like I’ve invested so much time and energy into this relationship. I know he has issues with poor self esteem so I kind of feel bad just leaving without trying to work through this with him. I feel like I owe it to him to try and help him through his issues. How do I determine if I should leave it or try to save it? I just don’t think there’s any trust left. I just feel like I gave him a second chance before – if I give him another chance this time, who’s to say he won’t do it again?

This is a tough one, 8 yrs. is allot of time. I know from experience that once the computer and the searching starts and you find things that are really not your thing it brings up trust issues. There are lot’s of choices out there and it may harmless but he’s still looking and denying it. He may feel that in his heart it’s wrong so he can’t open up to you about it. Once you start feeling like an investigator in your own home it’s a slippery sloap, the trust is very hard to maintain. You need to look into counseling, it sounds like an impartial 3rd party could have some good input while listening to both side.
Good luck

I go on holiday on the 16th July and always have dreadful trouble sleeping in strange places (i take things like my own pillow to try to help, but it doesn’t).

Could i get away with drinking alcohol during the day (up to 2 hours before bed) then drink at least a pint of water and take a herbal sleeping aid? would it be safe?

Plus i can’t swallow tablets (i even struggle with really tiny ones. i normally crush them, i noticed you can’t do this to kalms) is there any herbal sleeping tablets i CAN crush? plus what about tea’s or syrup? are there any and are they any good? help!

This depends on a lot of factors.

You need to look at the ingredients in the sleeping aid and check them for reactions with alcohol or any other medication you might be taking. One excellent site is www.healthyhealing.com.

I would recommend refraining from much alcohol use as it can contribute to your feelings of anxiety and agitation.

Many herbs can be obtained in an extract (liquid) form either with alcohol as the agent or glycerine. You might want to investigate that option as well. I used CalmChild by Planetary Formulas when my children used to have trouble because they would get wound up once in a while.

Other suggestions:

Try and set as much of a routine as you can … even if you travel on your holidays … get up at the same time eat at the same time, go to sleep… try and stay as close to normal home as possible.

Maybe incorporate a nighttime tea time into your routine. There are many herbal teas which can be calming. (stay away from black teas which contain caffeine if you have issues with caffeine). A nice cup of tea and a book or magazine can help relax your mind to let you drift away.

Look into the possibility of a relaxation tape or CD you could bring with you. Test it out before you go.

Investigate whether you MIGHT (keyword might) be able to use melatonin or 5-HTP to help. Lack of Serotonin can cause sleep issues.

Get alot of physical movement — walk, ride a bike, etc and be outside.

Get sun (but stay protected).

hope this helps.

best

please rate the deck, and tell me what you think the strengthens and weaknesses of my deck are.
please tell me what to add and what to take out thanks.

I play a lot and I have to say respectfully, it is impossible to win with that.

First you have no theme, no combos or stuff to rack up the serious points before going in for the kill.

Second, it is to unreliable, a good magic deck will give you exactly what you want in your first few turns. Pick seven or eight creatures and seven or eight maybe nine spells. Never guess what you will see in a game.

Third, pick a color, not many people are playing shards of alara right now at friday night magic so pick just one or two colors to build a deck around until everybody is playing shards.

Fourth, good luck.

Part 5 of the Road Safety Act (Vic.) contains six types of drink-driving offences as follows:

1 Driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (DUI);

2 Driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle while the blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeds or is equal to the prescribed limit of 0.05;

3 “Fail the test” offences;

4 Refusing a breath test or failing to undergo a blood sample in hospital after a motor vehicle accident;

5 Failure to have a zero blood alcohol (for Probationary license holders); and

6 An accompanying driver offence.

Penalties for blood alcohol offences usually involve fines or imprisonment or license or permit disqualification. License or permit penalties for drink-driving offences involving BAC readings vary according to the nature of the driver’s BAC, prior drink-driving offences, and when the offence took place.

Conviction for more serious offences like DUI or refusing a breath or blood test, involves two years’ license disqualification for a first offence and four years license disqualification for subsequent offences.

Conviction for BAC reading offences involves license disqualification on a sliding scale according to the BAC reading. The period of disqualification is doubled for a subsequent offence.

As a result of the Road Safety (Amendment) Act 2000 (Vic.), drink-drivers with readings of 0.07 or above must have their license cancelled, irrespective of whether they were issued with a traffic infringement or a summons to appear in court. Magistrates have no discretion to alter the period of cancellation. Drink-drivers with alcohol readings of 0.05 or 0.06 may retain their licenses subject to incurring 10 demerit points whereupon VicRoads has the power to suspend or cancel licenses and permits.

Whilst difficult, it is possible to challenge BAC readings successfully. These defences are generally based upon expert evidence, using the breathalyser over-estimation and rise and fall arguments. These defences are confined to offences of being in charge of a motor vehicle while the blood alcohol content exceeds the prescribed limit.

It is more difficult to challenge “fail the test” offences where a driver has, within three hours of driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle, provided a breath sample or a blood sample which, when analysed, exceeds the prescribed BAC. In relation to those offences, challenges appear to be limited to situations where the elements of the offence are not made out. In other words, defences are that the defendant was not driving; the test was not done within three hours of driving; or where the defendant can establish that the BAC was solely due to the post-driving consumption of alcohol; or the breathalyser was on the occasion not in proper working order or not properly operated.

It is also becoming increasingly common for drink-driving charges to be challenged on grounds that the Police have failed to comply with the drink-driving legislation.

It is important for clients to seek legal advice, particularly where BAC readings are alleged to be 0.07 or above.

Myths About Drink

Before drinking, eat a full meal. A full stomach slows down the absorption of alcohol, giving the body more time to process the toxins. Foods high in fat content, like cheese, and carbohydrates will retard the absorption of alcohol. Having food in the stomach also decreases stomach irritation, in turn reducing the likelihood that a drinker will vomit.

Before drinking alcohol, drink a glass of water. This ensures the body is hydrated before the diuretic effect takes hold.

Also, drink a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage. In addition to helping keep a drinker hydrated, this will give the body more time to process the alcohol, dilute the toxins and reduce irritation of the stomach. A sports drink will also replenish electrolytes, salts and sugars lost in the urine.

Wine has a higher percentage of alcohol (7 to 15 percent) than beer (4 to 6 percent), but it is usually not carbonated. White wine is safer than red or blush because it has fewer congeners.

Wine is a mild natural tranquiliser, serving to reduce anxiety and tension. As part of a normal diet, wine provides the body with energy, with substances that aid digestion, and with small amounts of minerals and vitamins. It can also stimulate the appetite. In addition, wine serves to restore nutritional balance, relieve tension, sedate and act as a mild euphoric agent to the convalescent and especially the aged.

The use of standard drinks can help people to monitor their alcohol consumption and exercise control over the amount they drink.

Different types of alcoholic drinks contain different amounts of pure alcohol. A standard drink is defined as one that contains 10 grams of pure alcohol. A standard drink for table wine (12%) is 1 small glass of 100ml. Large wine glasses can hold two standard drinks or even more!

The remedy known as ‘a hair of the dog’ that is, having a drink or two the following morning – is time-honoured. It works up to a point, but only temporarily. The hangover will return when the effects of the drink wear off; it simply prolongs the discomfort. Some people recommend a variety of vitamins, and herbal preparations but there’s no scientific evidence they work.

An effective treatment is physical exercise such as swimming, running or a workout at the gym. This releases endorphins which remove the feeling of a hangover.

Water is a main source of energy for the body. Waiting until you get thirsty is a mistake, because thirst is a sign your energy is becoming depleted. No one lets their car’s gas tank get completely empty before they fill it, yet many people allow this to happen to their bodies by waiting to drink water. Don’t let your body stall on the side of the road! Drink water regularly to keep your body hydrated, and your energy levels at their peak.

Most people don’t consume enough water because they wait until they are thirsty. This is a philosophy perpetuated by the National Academy of Sciences, among others. This theory has been passed down for over 100 years, because during a time when research in dehydration and thirst was being studied by the French, American physiologist Walter Bradford Cannon dismissed this research, claiming through rather gruesome experiments on dogs, that thirst was only a the condition of having a dry mouth.

By waiting until our mouths are dry, we are thirsty. This signal is used when the body fluids are depleted. Dehydration is a serious problem, especially for the elderly. After age 20, our bodies become less and less aware of the sensation of thirst, and become continuously dehydrated. By age 70, the elderly can become obviously thirst and totally dehydrated, and be unaware that this condition greatly affects their health. A scientific experiment was conducted where a group of elderly people were asked not to consume any water for a 24 hour period. The result? When water was made available, many people still did not feel thirsty. Water was left for them, and they would not consume the water. However when young people participated in the same experiment, they quickly corrected the thirst problem and immediately drank the water provided for them.

The easy solution to the dehydration problem, is to drink water regularly throughout the day. The average person drinks about two quarts of water a day, but they need four quarts. Two quarts are consumed through the water content in food. The body needs four quarts of water to produce a healthy two quart flow of urine. This maintains good kidney function and health. If urine is colorless, you are properly hydrated. When it becomes yellow, or even orange, the body is dehydrated and a part of the body is suffering for it. Organs that become dehydrated cease to function properly. Waiting to drink water until you are thirsty can lead to health complications, even premature death.
