A very solid speed type character. Maximized gameplay involves C1+R1 spamming. Equipping Agility on her messes up the damage in her C1.

If you master the timing, it is possible to group her DirR1 and R1 together so that she doesn’t do that flip backwards. This is more like an interesting fact, and nothing really that’s practical for maximized gameplay

C3 is also useful, for large crowd situations. She doesn’t flinch when using her C3, so consider her a Power type when she’s using this. When up against multiple officers or just officers in large crowds, it is safer to enter the crowd with her C3 before spammer her Shield Bashing combo.

The flexibility and beauty of her moveset is why Xing Cai’s one of my favorites.

I made a mistake with the video editing, so this one is a quick re-upload.

The mighty Lu Bu turns out to be not so mighty in this game. I actually like how Lu Bu is arguably the best in Dynasty Warriors 5. I don’t might him being completely broken even in DW5 Chaos Mode, because he should be unparalleled in this way. In my DW5 full customization tier list, I have Zhuge Liang rivaling him in top tier. Lol, until someone wants to debate about this, these two still stay in the top tier. Anyway, I also like this a lot, as the best warrior and the best strategist of the Three Kingdoms, makes the top tier (trust me, I didnt do it on purpose, the character analyzes just happened to put these two in the top tier). Anyway, there’s my rant on how Lu Bu should deserve to be one of the best in any game like this.

Here’s evidence on why KOEI hates Lu Bu:
1) Late elemental activation (C4). Well…C1 and C2 count as elemental charge attacks but they are useless.
2) All the mightiest warriors (historically) such as Tadakatsu Honda, Musashi Miyamoto, Keiji Maeda, Zuo Ci (I suppose…KOEI just chose to make this guy a really good character), get attack buffs. Lu Bu doesn’t.
3) Zhang Fei’s C4 by default launches enemies, while with Multi it doesnt. But Lu Bu gets to launch his enemies both with and without Multi
4) His R1 is very weak
5) His R1 has control limitations
6) His R1 takes long to execute
7) His R1 costs a lot of musou

With that introduction…it’s easily seen that when fully maximized, Lu Bu is well below average, in this game. He’s not bad, but he’s bad for his name. His FULL C6 is enough to kill a generic, but this move takes so long that it’s slower than characters who need two charge attacks. With C4 and C6 being his strongest and most useful attacks, you can already imagine how long it would take to defeat his evil twin, with double defense. For some reason KOEI allowed Zhang Fei’s C4 to not launch officers far away with Multi equipped. But for Lu Bu’s C4, with Multi, it still launches enemies like 50 feet away. I did think about an Ice weapon for Lu Bu, but this would take him two charge attacks to kill generics, which seriously hurts his offensive speed. So the best would be to use his C4 against double defense Lu Bu in this stage, and hit him up against a wall or something.

I use his R1 twice in this video. I miss the second time (didnt mean to), but its good that I missed, to show how its very limited in massive crowds. It’s easy to aim in the right direction, but what happens, is he’ll grab the first person he meets, so unless the officer is in the lead of a crowd, you wont be able to grab him. And when it did work, against Yan Baihu, you can see how useless the damage is. Awakening won’t even help much.

There are however, two things that Lu Bu is good at, but it doesnt change the fact that Lu Bu is still a low tier character
1) Eliminating hordes of archers
2) Fighting multiple officers

hmm wow this video turned out pretty nicely. Normally it takes Orochi to kill generics in two C1-1. But if you use his Jump attack just before he lands, he can link a C1-1 directly after. This not only gives him a faster offense, but a much stronger one too. This combo CAN kill Kotaro. I show this against Boomslang, and it was actually the first time that he didn’t die from this combo (Boomslang and Kotaro have roughly the same amount (or same?) of health)

An alternative offense would be C3-1 to attempt ice, and then C1-1. I was lucky to freeze Lu Bu in this recording, and this is how fast Orochi’s offense can be against DD Lu Bu.

Orochi probably has one of the best, if not the best, musous in the game.

He’s also exceptional against archers and multiple officers

Kotaro’s C2, C3, and C4 will all work well against generic officers for maximized gameplay. These charge attacks will kill generics very quickly, but all of them require preceding normal attacks, therefore none of them are safe enough to consider Kotaro a high tier character. Being a Speed Type character, one mess up in a dense crowd can mean game over. If he is use any of the three charge attacks above, his offense is very fast, but he defense is what keeps him from making a high tier placement. But, if he resorts to his C1, which can be executed at a distance, his defense becomes very good, but offense becomes slow, which again prevents him from making high tier.

His C4 runs the highest risk of getting hit, but it is the easiest to execute.
This is because his C2 requires a peon to be near the targeted officer (assuming the officer is blocking), and conversely, his C3 requires no peons (or at least a low enough number of peons) surrounding the officer, because his C3-2 has auto lock on. ThIs is why I messed up against the first generic officer.

Against double defense Lu Bu, find a way to isolate him (I would recommend C2) and then follow up with a string of shortened C4’s until he’s defeated.
